It would seem the humidity is driving the temperature down in my Hovabator still air. This is the first time I've hatched so many (14 hatched so far). It's staying below 99 and the humidity is 75% or just over no matter what adjustments I make. There are still 8 pips in there and I'm worrying that they'll drown. I have no qualms about helping them out, but I don't want to if I don't have to. They've been pipped for 12 hours or less, so they should be fine IF I can get this temp & humidity to even out.

Ideas??

Are you in a high humidity area? If high humidity causing low temperature is the problem, I would recommend removing the lid to lower humidity in the hope temperature then returns to normal. Not sure how helpful this is.

Yes, our ambient room humidity runs 40-50% or more. I've lifted the lid several times and will continue to do so. I FINALLY got the temp over 100, so I'm hopeful that will cap the humidity somewhat.

This late on in the game, a slightly low temp is not going to hurt them. I mean, if they've pipped already then they're just about fully developed. A couple of hours to absorb the rest of their yolk sac and they'll be out. Then you'll be putting them in a brooder at 95 degrees, if you see what I mean.

Also, if your humidity has been good throughout incubation and your eggs have lost the correct amount of moisture, a humidity spike in lockdown will not cause them to drown. Chicks drown when humidity has been too high throughout the incubation and there is too much moisture left inside the shell, so that when they pip internally, they drown in the excess egg fluid. I don't think it's possible for them to drown while hatching just because of high incubator humidity at lockdown, and I routinely run lockdowns at 85%+ with no problems.

If I were you, I think I'd probably just relax. I think your chickies should be fine...

Did you open the little vent plugs? I can't remember if mine had one or two.......I think two. That's a little high, so maybe take one of the little red plugs out.

someone might think the humidity is high. I do not think it is.
the humidity inside the egg is 100% so at 75% in the incubator it is still drier than where the chick is in..
