I'm a little concerned about when the eggs start to hatch, and the chicks are in the incubator on the wire with the other eggs. I have a home-made incubator with the eggs laying on the wire mesh, so the eggs do move around a little. Also will the baby chicks foot, or leg get stuck in between the squares of the mesh and hurt itself?

Is it better to cover the mesh with a layer of paper towels or something prior to them hatching? Or, just HOW SOON can I move out the baby that has hatched so that it does not disturb the other eggs in the incubator? Or do I just leave them alone until all are done? The incubator is not that large, so that is another concern as well.

I'm a newbie at all this, but want to be as prepared as I can for the big day. I candled this morning and all 9 of the eggs look to be developing. I just don't want 2 or 3 of them to be hatched and hurt the other eggs or babies that are in the process of hatching.

Any suggestions??? Or how do you do it when they start to hatch?
