Hi a friend of mine asked me the other day what causes turkey chicks to hatch with messed up legs, this too has happened to me and i didnt have an answer, the chick looks healthy eats and drinks but its legs are out to the hips and it cant walk properly, i ended up killing mine because they need a lot of tlc and we are both curious what would cause such a thing, if anyone knows please let me know and i will pass on the info. I am suspecting maybe the mother hen was missing something from her diet prior to laying the fertilized egg, but that is only an assumption. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I hatched 2 like this in the past and my friend just hatched one.

I'm sorry to hear about your poult.

Here are some reasons behind leg problems:
Poor nutrition in the mother hen
Poor incubator conditions
Poor genetics in the mother or father
Apraddle leg (hips slipping out of joint because of a slick surface that they can't grip)
A weak or late to hatch poult

I hope this helps. Best of luck!
