We have 20 some grown hens and roosters and 40 8 week old chicks who are nesting together now (we moved the chicks out last week). One of our Aracana chicks got wedged under a board in our barn and got stuck. The other chicks or hens proceeded to rip all her back feathers out and took chunks of meat off her back. I found her in the morning, pulled her out and expected her to die but 4 days later, she is doing fine isolated in our feed bin. I'm putting Bacitracin on her back daily and she's eating and drinking fine. Put a gentle Buff Orp chick out there with her and they are fast friends. My question is when to return her to general population? Should I wait until her back is completely healed or just until the feathers are starting to grow back?
