I have a chick that i got from farm & Home About 4 weeks ago , two of the 15 were Black Austerlops , One is growing normal as th other breeds, but the other is still the size of 3 chicks i got 2 weeks later.?? They were the same size when i got them, is this a dwarf, or could it be sick ?? It seems to eat and all when i check her. I just hope she isnt ill or have a worm or somthing.Anyone have this happen before ? If so let me Know Please .

I am having the same problem, I think. The wings on mine look too large for her size and her legs are spindly. She also seems to easily go off balance. She's an EE from MPC from a group of 2EE/2BR/2Speckled Sussex.

I posted twice, but noone helped. I got mine the 1st week of April.

I have a runt too. I think you'll find that is exactly what it is, a runt. I've read quite a few posts on here about runts. I don't think it's uncommon. In some cases, they might catch up but some are just smaller in stature.

If she seems to be eating okay and is otherwise healthy, I don't think I'd worry too much. I'd think it would be pretty unlikely to have picked up a worm yet. It probably hasn't been out on the ground much. Plus, I'd think there'd be signs in the poop. My little runt is the picture of health other than her size.

This must be the season for runts I have gotten two different runts in two different batchs from the same feed store.
However my first batch runt has grown to be as big as the others just smaller in weight, So I feel y'all may have runts as well but no fear they will grow in size just not in weight you will always know it is the runt.

Good luck to y'all

I had a small one this season, too - a little polish. I had three of them, and the other two grew to twice the size of the small one by the time they were four weeks old. Then, I came home from work one day to find the little one had died! It had never looked sick, but it had never really grown much, either. I guess it was what you call "failure to thrive."

I hope your little ones have a much longer life than mine did!
