Hello from Atlanta Ga.
While I have read BYC for a long time, I finally have my own little flock and official experience to contribute
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have had chickens all my life (mostly on my family's farm) so while they were not directly mine I participated in their care and raising. Then it was much different. It wasn't cool or a hobby, it was life. Chickens pretty much came in one variety - White (egger) and Roo (stew pot) Once a Chickee stopped laying she retired to the freezer not a sunny coop for elder eggers. This June I decided after years of research into organic gardening homesteading and sustainable living, I wanted my family to raise some ladies and learn some new life style changes.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have 6 ladies between the ages of 6-7 weeks old.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Marans, Ameraucana, Cochin, Rhode Island Red EE's
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
My Chicklet friends turned me in this direction some time back!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Knitting quilting spinning wool crafting in general baking
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am newly married, have a daughter that is off to college. We have two dogs, 4 cats, 1 rabbit and our newest ladies.
Oh and we inherited a fish
