I’m interested in raising some heritage breed chickens sometime in the future so I’ve been trying to do my homework and research the breeds I may be interested in. I’m wondering though, is there a breed of chicken that originated or has roots in the southern United States?

That's a good question... I know of several breeds that started off in the United States, but I'm not sure if they started in the south or the north or east or west. Following :pop

I was listening to Joel Salatin just now, and I wondered the exact same thing. If not, I think it is something that needs to exist asap.

From my research, I have found most US breeds were developed in New Jersey, Ohio, Delaware, New York, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and New England. The breeds that are the US developed that I can not find an area or state of origin are Lamona, Hollands, and Java.
