Let me give you a bit of her back story. So her mother is a Buff Duck her father is a Cayuga Drake she went broody she had 6 beautiful ducklings. She lost 4 babies to a fox now she has 2 left that are 3.5 to 4 weeks old. She not even done rearing them yet and she went broody again. She sits on the nest all day with her 2 ducklings by her side comes out to eat and drink ducklings following her still then goes back to her nest.

What should I do ??
Do ducks go broody multiple times in a year ??
Should I take her 2 ducklings off of her ??

I have a broody Khaki Cambell that's eggs are hatching today when all her ducklings hatch I am going to pen her up so the fox dose not get to her and her ducklings will the older 2 be fine ?

Has this happened to anyone else ??

Thank you

If I didn't know better I'd think you were talking about a Muscovy ducks, talk about broody

well if she is broody does this mean she has already started back laying again?

What I do when i have one that won't give up the broody. I take all old bedding out and replace it with fresh the nest is gone and just doesn't look the same. If she is sitting on eggs again take them before doing this and don't give them back. Hopefully she'll give up and begin her duty as a mama. I'd leave the ducklings with her as long as you can see they are suffering from neglect. I have had duck moms give up caring for their ducklings at 4 weeks and seems they do fine, I just keep them where predators can't get to them.

Good idea to always fence moms and ducklings with secure housing for at least 2-3 weeks usually by then duckling are strong on their legs and can evade most of the flock. and everyone is use to the new comers. As for other preds unless the flock in behind secure fencing all the time we do lose some sad but true.

Miss Lydia, No she is not laying again someone else thought it would be a good idea to lay where she was nesting with her ducklings. And she's very aggressive I can't even get close to her anymore without provoking an attack.

You cannot be afraid of your own duck, long sleeves and gloves I have a few that intimidate me too or try but I get in their nest if I want. Up to you let her brood again or do what I suggested and get her going with the ones she has now.
