Ok, I went to two farm stores, TSC AND Big R and both only carry one kind of Sulmet, and it's for swine. Neither store knew if there even was a Sulmet for poultry. So I got the Sulmet thinking that if I can't use it, I'll just return it. I am hoping it's the right one. I just got home and my vet is already closed, I can't call her. So I figured people on here have more experience with chickens and Sulmet than she apparently does, so could someone tell me, did I get the right stuff? It's the 4oz powder. And if it is, how much do I use? I am treating approximately 50 birds, though I have the pullet that pooped blood quarantined in my bathroom, however this evening when I got home and I went to feed and water my birds I noticed that one of my 9 week old bantam buff orpington pullets is walking around all fluffed up. She was moving slow enough for me to just reach down and grab her, but then again they are used to being just grabbed and snuggled, so she could have not run cause she anticipated loving. Please help me someone, if you can. So I can medicate my birds before it gets dark out. Thank you and I will keep watching this thread for answers!

I have the liquid kind and it has instructions for cattle, horses, swine, and poultry on it. I would assume that yours could be used for any of the above based on my instructions. I can't tell you how much powder to use, though. I can tell you that the poultry instructions are much different than those for larger animals.

If you are interested in buying the liquid type, they have it here:
www.jefferslivestock.com I don't know how long it will take for them to mail to you, though. It's local for me so I drove out to their building to buy some.

They are indefinitely back ordered on the 16oz one. Their powdered one looks different from the one I bought today too. I am worried. Though theirs has the same instructions on it that the bag I bought today has. I am just worried, if I give it to them, I don't want to risk killing my birds. I love them and don't want to risk their lives.

Honestly, use Corid. It's only for coccidiosis and won't have the sometimes harmful effect that antibiotics have. It's the same product for cattle, swine, chickens.

Ok, so I assume I bought the wrong stuff at Big R yesterday, so after searching online I found a liquid form of Sulmet, 16 oz bottle, and I ordered it. It should get here in 3-7 days. I am not procrastinating, I just couldn't afford the nearly $54 shipping fee to overnight it. My sick bird is no longer pooping out blood. I'm not saying that she isn't still sick, but she's not pooping out the blood anymore. I know she's depressed cause she's in quarantine in my bathroom, but I've been keeping a close eye on her since I first saw her get sick. My vet is useless. She doesn't treat very many chickens and doesn't carry the right meds for it, so I had to order them myself. Is there anything I can do to help my sick bird in the meantime?

With the package you bought in hand, call the manufacturer and ask them to help you convert the dose to the amount needed for a chicken with coccidiosis. Tell them you need the correct amount for ONE gallon of water.

Sulmet is sulmet is sulmet, as in the medicine is the same. What differs is the strength from one version to the next. What strength is listed on your package?
