Hey all was wanting to get some help on possible issues here. One of my EE has some missing feathers on her head and a greying eye. She is 1 year old almost exactly and we do have a rooster. Few days ago I noticed the feather loss thought maybe the rooster (1 roo to 12 hens) might be favoring her but last night as my wife was putting them up for the night she noticed Janet's (one my 5yo daughters favorite girls) eye was a bit grey and I just snapped these pics a few min ago. As of right now she is acting normal and I havent noticed anything off, no lethargy, shes eating and drinking just fine, can't tell yet what her level of sight is out of that single eye yet as she seems to respond to stimuli from that side.

Just wondering if the hive mind could help me more than Google does before I even consider the Vet for a chicken.

Have you seen the others pecking on her? I can't see any bleeding, which is good. It's also good that she is eating and drinking well. Does she run into things because of the eye?

She has a large cataract on that eye, so her far vision in that eye is probably poor. Does the other eye look okay? Her close up vision is in her left eye. Make sure that she can find food and water. If the rooster is pulling out her feathers or overmating her you could either separate him or her in a wire dog crate with food and water during the day.

Nope does just fine, she goes out and forages withe everyone once they are out of the coop and I haven't seen her have any issues with navigating

I thought maybe cataract, other eye looks perfect. I haven't noticed the overmating but they free range most the day so I don't always see their mating behavior. But they had been in the coop a bit more the last two weeks we were busy with life so maybe either him or some the other girls messing with her too. I've never really seen anything that would be them picking on each other. They were all raised together with the rooster from day old chicks. And they get to be outside like 6 hours a day most days.

I'll be trying to keep an eye on it a bit more now that it's happening
