Finally finished with it!!! Well...almost..we still have to make their nesting boxes...but since they won't be laying until after the new year we thought we could wait a few more weeks until those are finished.

We have 3 hens so far (3 more on the way). They seem very happy. I tried to let them out the other day so they could free range in my yard, but they stepped out for just a minute then they all ran back in. We have had them for a month now and I still have to put them to bed every night as they still like to roost on the pole outside. Hopefully they'll get the hang of it soon.

This is the roosting pole that they would rather sleep on at night

This photo is my favorite because you can see my beagle Lucy trying to figure out how to get in!

I love your coop! Especially the cut out diamonds for ventilation I assume. I wish I had funds to make mine like yours but gotta start small till we're ready to upgrade hopefully in the spring.
Oh yeah and the paint colors are so wonderfully soothing!

Congratulatioins great job!!!!

Verrrrry nice! I've seen other coops made to that plan - it looks like a good choice for our part of the world (I'm in Seattle).

Love your coop!!!!! The only thing I'd change would be your round roost poles. They like the 2x4's with the 4 inch side up so they can sit on that and rest over their feet. Chickens don't perch like wild birds or exotics like Parrots. The young chicks will use round roosting poles at first, but as they get bigger they prefer not to. Other than that, love the design and how you have it set up!!!

Cute set-up! Yeah, it'll take them a while to build confidence in venturing out. I do agree with Angelz, you might consider replacing the dowel rods with something flatter, or even a much thicker branch (3" diameter or so). Chickens rest/set on the roost; they don't grip on with their feet like many wild birds do.
