Having a problem with small knats, also the NO-SEE-UMS!

I'm having a little problem with the knats that croud around my yard. They don't bite, but they fly into the eyes of my 6 week old chicks and duck and really bug the heck out of them. They shake their heads every 5 seconds. Anything I could use to get rid of them? The larger flies aren't a problem, these little ones are. Nest topic: No-see-ums. They don't seem to bother the chickens, as they can't crawl through all feathers to get to the skin. But it really bugs ME. Their are the smallest biting bug, about 1-2 mm in size. But their bite packs a punch, and they come in swarms. Anyway I methods of getting rid of both?

Don't know how to get rid of them but Avon skin-so-soft bath oil will keep them from biting you. My DH buys the stuff to take with him fishing. All you do is put a little in your hand and rub it on. It definitely keeps them away.
