I was sitting in my living room yesterday, reading various postings in the BYC forum. I had the living room window open and was enjoying the occasional glance out at The Girls in their run. Then, I heard the distinct "cree, cree" cry of one of our many resident Red-Tailed Hawks. In a panic, I jumped up and ran out to the chicken coop -- not a girl in sight. I ran to the door of the coop, threw it open.....NO GIRLS!! Then I looked under the roosts. Hiding under the 4'x8' poop board, huddled in the corner were my 12 girls. Whew! I closed the pop door to keep them in, and returned to the BYC forum.
Later, when the hawk was gone, I went out and opened the pop door for them. Uh-uh, no way, we're not going out there! They wouldn't come out for hours. My daughter and I finally went out and sat next to the run -- only then were The Girls brave enough to come outside.
The cover is going on the run tonight!!
