HAWK deterrents...lost my first chicken yesterday... :(

My Wheaten Terrier, while not a LGD, is quite attentive and loves to be outside when it's nice. I'm thinking of relocating his daytime runner down next to where the chickens are. He wouldn't be able to be IN the pasture, as he would chase them, but do you think it would help having him NEXT to the pasture while the chickens are out in their pasture? Or would the hawk realize he's tied up and not a threat? He's quite small animal/bird/squirrel aggressive and he barks, so tha might be helpful?
So thankful I don't have to worry about four-legged animals--our big old Rhodesian Ridgeback stuck his nose on the fence and YIPED so loundly, running away with his tail between his legs. Poor buddy--he's a chow hound and only wanted the leftover bread we were feeding the chickens...
