Hawk fought the chicken and the chicken..................

WON!!!!

She is missing all of her tail feathers but she took out a chunk of hawk feathers during the brawl.

There had been a lot of hawks in the area keeping an eye on our chicken. We witnessed several low flight attempts but she would either run under a horse or one of the sheep would run to the hawk. This time I found a pile of feathers and no chicken. There were big feathers, little feathers, AND hawk feathers in the mix. But no chicken. She was gone. Not even a peep when I brought her favorite chicken scratch treat.

The next morning she reappeared. Missing her tail and some wing feathers on one side, but other wise in pretty good shape.

And most importantly,,, no hawks anywhere in sight. I think she taught them a lesson.

Does this serious kung fu hen have a name?

I happen to be worried lately about a couple of hawks that have recently moved into our neighborhood. I hope that if they decide to plunge down in our yard that they will meet the same furious resistance.

I sure hope for you and your flock that that hawk has got his lesson for good!
