Such a bummer. Found the back end totally intact of one of my favorite little hens. She was a golden penciled hamburg. My dog was sitting next to it when I went out to put them all away. He had not touched it, just sitting by it.
I found more feathers under a tree at the back of the yard. So I think the dog had come out into the yard after the kill and the hawk flew off with a meal in it's talons. Sat in the tree where I found more feathers.
I called her 'Green' cause she had a green braclet/band on one leg. I have 3 others of her breed. They all have different colors. Green was very full of her little self. She loved being out in the yard instead of in the coop/run.
They will all be doing a lot more time IN for a bit while I decide what to do. I know they are being stalked now. I had been watching for the hawk all day. He's usually around in the morning then gone.
I'm sure he will be back so they will have to stay safe and just grump at me about it.
Sigh. The hawks are out and hungry. Watch your feathers.
