I know we all know this. Being the winter, hawks are migrating to the south, so "eyes to the skies" everyone! I know we always have many more hawk sightings this time of year. It's time to curtail the free ranging and protect our feathered children.

I wish I only had to worry about migrating hawks. I see mine all winter long. With slim pickings my chickens are constantly under attack.

I am going to set up a buffet table in the far back, and hopefully the hawk will attack whatever is on the table.

Saw one fly right over my house the other day, but did not return...Thank goodness....

Our issue around here is going to be the owls that winter in our area. We have Great Horned, which are quite a threat. Then we have these little things which are the smallest up here.

Its a saw whet. This is a photo we took last winter. If you look close, you can see his dinner. Luckily this one isn't a threat to the birds.

Owls typically hunt at night, but you still get them at dusk and dawn.

Grrrrrr......I know what you mean,a hawk just got into our run and tore up one of my girls (though I am pretty sure she'll make it). I guess I am going to need mesh

Thats why. Though in the spring they all nest in the giant oaks around my yard
