I have 4 chickens who live in a sheltered 8' dog run that is covered. I have a Pekin duck who lives in a gated area of the yard (about 20X20 fenced)- that is connected to the same area that our dog lives in. I don't worry about predators like foxes with the dog- but this morning I saw a hawk sitting very close to the chicken run (which is about 20 feet from where the duck is).
I have the duck on our porch today because I was afraid to leave her outside with the hawk there and now I'm trying to figure out what to do. I hate to think about enclosing her - she has a kiddie pool that she likes to swim in, and is use to being about to walk around her space.
Is there anything I can do to keep the hawk away from her? Do hawks fly off with big ducks too? She is probably about 9 pounds...
