Hawks - URGH!

The hawks are not attacking inside the actual coop, but the are flying, landing on the posts and hopping around inside the pen (yard/run.) Here are a couple of pictures of what our set up looks like.

This used to be a garden - it didn't work out - too many trees.

This is the our "Chicken Palace" - we made it with all scraps and a huge pallet. It is soooo heavy. The Cd's were hung by fishing line from each corner of the tin roof. They are not in this picture, but they are constantly moving in the wind and the sun will hit them just right and blind you for a moment. So, I think that the hawks are not quite sure what's going on...

By the way the ramp on the right was made by my 12 year old son - it did not work out so well (it kind of fell apart) and has been removed from the pen.

I don't do it, my husband does all of the clipping. It seems like we are having to clip them every 2-3 weeks. We are planning to do something different, just not sure what just yet. Believe it or not we've only had one fly out in the 2 months that they have been in this pen.

If your having hawks come and land on the posts and in the run I would put netting along the top. You'll have to secure a post taller then coop in the middle and string it over that but that should be easy to do. I'm surprised they haven't got another one yet. They know their there it's only a matter of time. Deer netting is inexpensive and can be used for lots of other stuff if you have some left over. Good Luck.
