I had my chickens out this morning while I cut grass on my road frontage. When I got back to the house I seen a hawk onlt 30 feet away from the pen and my chickens were gone. The hawk flew away and I begin looking for the birds. They were hiding in some thick brush in the woods and would not come out. It took me about 30 minutes to find al 7 of then and get them back into the pen. Now they don't want to leave the pen.

Give them time and they will come out. Takes a little time to get over scare. Hawk will also be back. Consider steps to prevent hawk from ultimately succeeding.

Before my husband got their yard totally covered with wire (where the trees aren't) I walked outside to take my girls their daily yogurt and saw a hawk in their pen. He of course killed one. I was sooooo mad. All 19 others were hiding in all the trees. They didn't even come out when I got into their yard which they always do. It took my husband 30 mins. to get that **** hawk out of there. And I didn't leave their yard until he had the whole thing covered. But while he was covering it the hawk was up there flying around and around waiting I know to get another one. But now there is no way he can get in there.
For the next two days my girls were very skittish and layed only a few eggs. They are fine now.
