Downey somehow broke the toenail (the long claw-like one) on the back of his foot! It looked like it was getting long, I was going to check on clipping it, and of course he beat me to it. I've been keeping an eye on his feet because he has been getting dry skin- I wouldn't have known about the toenail if I hadn't looked- he never made a noise of discomfort or limped, but there was a tiny bit of blood on his foot and the claw was gone. Is the little bit left behind part of the toenail or is it something that should be wrapped? 20210603_230938.jpg 20210603_230909.jpg

It is most-likely best if it dries and a scab forms. Then it will heal over, and foot will be with less toes.
I had chickens that lost multiple toes. They never made any discomforting sounds. One of my Cochin lost most of the toes on both feet. I renamed her stumpy. She was still able to walk around on the remaining pads, and sit on a flat roost. Since that time, I do not want chickens with feathered feet. The feet were constantly wet. (or most of the time when ground was wet)

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, :highfive:

Thanks! He's still getting around fine, and all the nails in front are fine. I kept thinking that his little "velociraptor claw" was getting pretty long, but I had never heard of trimming a duck's nails before!

My drake had one that was quite loose and then became deformed. I trimmed it off with toenail trimmers. Drake doesn't miss it and I am less worried about it becoming a problem.
