only the shadow knows.....
Finally had a day good enough that I could get the automatic chicken door install. (chemo has been kicking my butt)

The screws my DH used to install the timer were a bit long so he decided to use the hammer to knock the ends off. My husband is one of those people who thinks force is better then finesse! Instead of tap tap it was WHAM WHAM WHAM!!

On the last WHAM all the guts of the timer popped out of the the unit!!!

Does anyone have any idea how to put it back together again?! This is the VSBi timer unit from Foys. I waited for over a month for this thing to come in on back order and now he broke it in 3 whacks!! I can't afford to spend another $90+ on a new unit. HELP!!!

Here's my thought: Tell your DH to look around the house and find some stuff worth $90 that belongs to him to take to the pawn shop... He broke it, so why should you have to pay for a replacement out of your own money?

That's an idea but I don't think he has anything the pawn shop would give us $90 for, lol.

I know Niffty and few others around here are mechanicly gifted. I've manage to find were 2 of the peices go. I'm having problems with the 5 little gears.

I can't help you put it back together, but I wanted to tell you how bad I feel for you! If one of the members with the same model took a picture of theirs, do you think that would help you?

So, until you can either get this fixed or get a new one, is it your DH's job to open and close the door every day???

Hey, is the timer built in or a separate part? Now I'm wondering if I've seen the timer sold separately on one of the sites? If so and you couldn't fix it, at least it wouldn't be the cost of the whole thing.

Hi. It's a separate part. It does have a light sensor but I really don't have a place on my coop to mount the sensor where it will get enough light until it's actually sundown. My coop is on the shadyside of the yard.

Hubby had been opening and closing the coop but he is back to work and doesn't get home until after 11pm. Sometimes on the chemo I'm just not strong enough to walk all the way out back. May need to take a footstool with me.

If only I could get these gears in place with out blowing the thing up!!

Ok Make sure you set the clock and the time on the dial to the same time and place a piece of tape on it to hold it. I had to take mine apart a second time to fix it. Hope the pics help its not hard once you get them in the right place and they will turn if you have the battery hooked up so you will see them turn as you add them.

Oh and make sure that the metal prongs on the copper coil thing in seated in the little brackets in the lid. You will see what I mean when you look at it. You will know if you have it right the black bar will start to rotate and that turns the white gears.
Good Luck.
