Evening,
STILL designing a coop for 3-4 birds. Current plan is to build approx. 4x4x4 with accompanying run. Question is this: how much "headroom" should I plan to give the birds above head height on the roosts before I install passive ventilation? Purpose is, of course, to avoid drafts.

I live in SE MI.

Thanks,
Bryan

BTW,
In full disclosure of my 4x4x4 + run plan...

My ordinances are vague at best. Therefore, I am nervous. I would prefer a low-profile coop.

I am on a shoe-string budget.

Just sayin'...

I have a 4 by 4 baby coop. It is about 18" high on one side, and about 27" high on the other. The roost is on the 27" side, but only about 3" off the floor. Ventilation is across the top of the higher side, about 4" wide, below the roof. There is also a 10" by 10" "window" by the high side that is made of mesh, I close that off when it is cold. The whole thing sits in the shade also. I think it would be fine for 3 LF if they had a good size run, 4 would be very tight. It works great for the young chicks. If I remember right, it only took 2 sheets of plywood, 2 by 4 for the base, and 2 by 2 for the framing. I used rolled roofing for the top, and the front (high side) completely drops down for cleanout---very simple!
