I let my chicks tell me their level of comfort and adjust the lamp accordingly lowering it or adjusting it's output by dimmer switch.

Keep in mind that 250W bulb going full blast is a fire hazard and a power hog.

Awe, you take the fun all out of it with that dimmer switch. My bathroom plugin doesn't have one though, so I didn't think of it. I agree 100% about the 250w and even 125w - make me nervous, but for winter hatches they are almost a must have. Forgot to say my 125w is blue, I use it when I have aggressive little cockerals, calms them down. But really a 100 watt gives off more heat.

Looks like MCM is raising up some breeders to raise up some for meat later (past threads) - which is going to be winter.
Now I have to ask DH about a slider for the bathroom. I am sure he is going to want to personally thank you on this one. Would be easier though.

I have a question when talking about Brooding Quail Outside.
In my brooder house for the chickens I have 2 lights incase one goes out, they still have heat. I have never lost a chick because of this when a light went out in the middle of the night. This has happened.

What about the quail babies?
With the smaller brooder boxes, do people set up 2 lights or use a smaller wattage double light?

Have you found it a good idea or not necessary?

edited to add: Ya, just regular light bulbs with the Coturnix.

Yea, I have fun with my dim switch I have it wired with the fixture not in the wall! LOL

I have so much with them dimmer switches ( actually I have 3 of them), that I am using them with smaller bulbs like 100W, or 75W.

I do not like to change bulbs, and yes I am using 2 bulbs of smaller wattage screwed into Y socket for added safety.

Remember, Wallyworld or Homo Depot gives us lots of electrical gadgets to use

but..........

I use a 60W Bulb for my buttons. It gets to around 100 +. So I don't think I would use the 250.

No, the high wattages 100 and over are for winter brooding outside mostly. When in the house, don't really need it.

My DH just sighed when I asked if he could put a slider in the plug in. Whats a slider? A Dimmer. Sigh.
I'll go in there at some point and it will be a done deal.

I wonder if the Blue light though would help with the Bobwhite pecking problems, maybe.
