Heat Cable (kind for herps) + Water Line = ?

So, I'm considering putting heat cable INSIDE the PVC water lines to keep the water from freezing. Will this work? Would the nipples then become electrified? Has anyone tried this? Let me know your thoughts.

Regular heat cable is not meant to be in contact with water and can pose a hazard.
If you want to have the heat cables inside the pipe you would have to use one designed to be in contact with water like the ones used for rabbit auto watering systems.
Here is a link to Bass and they have a heat cable that will work inside the water pipe. One cable is good to 20* and two cables will protect down to 0*.
