Heat emitter bulbs

Does anyone have experience using heat emitter bulbs in coops when its extremely cold, like -10 or more? Can you get an accurate temperature reading?

Heated roosts would probably be more useful so heat isn't lost in the air but any heat has dangers. -10 is pretty cold.

Doubt it will do much, they get very hot to the touch,
but the heat doesn't travel far even in mild ambient temps.
