As a first time egg hatcher, would you say I would be better off with a heat lamp? Or should I go ahead and buy the Brinsea EcoGlow 20 Chick Brooder?

Ecoglow all the way for me :)

No fear of fire hazards, plus the chicks and sleep at night. Though if you're raising quail you may need to put a bowl underneath to elevate the chicks so they may receive warmth

Hi Nikitaa! I would recommend the eco glow as well, over the years I have used both but the eco glo is safer and the chicks seem to prefer it, though the downside is you cannot see them so well! what are you hatching?

do you still want a couple of girls from me? still looking like the majority may be roos but I may have a couple going of girls going spare in a couple of months if all goes well!

I'm culling my flock later on this evening due to a mycoplasma infection. I don't plan to hatch for few months or I might wait until next year. I rushed into things and want to take it slowly and be prepared for everything this time round unlike now where I didn't even know of mycomplasma. So while I would love some more chickens to replace mine, I think I better decline due to not wanted to infect them accidental before my coops are properly disinfected and such :( I am so sorry. And thank you both for youre advice :)

Are you sure of the infection? Did you get it diagnosed by a vet? A lot of things can look like it.. That's why I'm mentioning it..

I have only used a heat lamp. If you are looking for something cheap, it's much less expensive.. Though if you plan to hatch a lot, a brinsea will pay for itself in electricity savings over time. Not sure how many chicks it can handle though.

I did go to the vets, with my chicken Heti who is the one who infected the entire flock, he said it was Mycoplasma and gave me Tylan to put into their water. He personally owns chickens so I'm assuming he knew what he was talking about :)

Thank you for your concern though, its so nice that everyone is so helpful on here.
