Hi! I am new to this, we got 8 chicks on Saturday. I would say about 2-3 are 2wks-3wks old, and 4-5 are 1wk-2wks old. I have them in our garage, which is where our furnace is (garage stays at 55-60degrees). I have had a brooding lamp on them during the days (and the thermometer states it is about 80 degrees), but shut it off and cover the little "coop"/container with a towel for the night. Is this wrong? I have some chicks who have feathers, and others who do not have as many. I don't want to mess this up, but also don't want my house to burn down. Any direction is greatly appreciated!!!
Also, I was thinking about bringing them into the house, into a bathroom, so the temp is more regulated and a bit warmer. Thanks!

From what I've been told or read about they need the heat lamp until at least 3wks old. Also until they are fully feathered you want to kept 3wks and up to a temp no lower than 70 degrees. I share my bedroom with a brooder box. What I did was opened a ladder, stick swiffer through my heat lamp hoop, and place it hanging between two rungs of my ladder. It keeps my chicka babies nice and warm without heating up the sides of my brooder box which can cause fires.

PS. My brooder box is in my room because my Bantam baby had a nasty case of pasty butt. I wanted keep a closer eye on her, and her other roommates. Plus I'm new to this too.
