Heat lamp

(I just posted this question in the wrong folder, sorry.)

Do I have to use the red brooder lamp for day-old chicks?
My home-hatched ducks were fine with a 100 watt incandescent bulb.
Right now I'm madly setting up for peeps arriving next week. They will be inside my house, if that makes any difference.

You don't have to use a red one. I have used regular light bulbs - 100 watt.

This has been discussed quite a bit. Some people like the red light and others don't think it makes any difference. I am using a regular white bulb. My chicks are 2 1/2 weeks old and havent had any problems. Some use white during the day and switch to red at night also. There's lots of opinions on this.
