So we made a homemade incubator out of a styrofoam cooler and put a 40watt bulb thought the top of the lid. My question is could we use a heat lamp instead possibly? I just don't like how hot the cord is getting close to the bulb end

would it be possible to make a small enough hole for the wire to go through out the bottom? It shouldn't get hot if it's going directly outside the incu.

The problem with a heat lamp is it's going to be way too hot. That or you're going to have no way to control your humidity come hatching time.

I'm not sure what kind of set up you have exactly light fixture wise, even a hole that's big enough to fit a plug through should be fine if you can't or don't feel comfortable doing the wiring. Since your eggies will need air to breathe. Some pictures would be helpful. ;)
