Alternate title: "Banty has breached all bounds of sanity and needs to come to terms with the fact that three incubators is enough."
I have a LG. I have a full sized cooler DIY. I have another cooler DIY that I'm currently working on. I have enough birds to keep a moderately sized army base fed. But I have yet another insane plan.
I'm planning on keeping my quail in a heated area over the winter. -40c is tough on them. Even 0c makes them unhappy. What this means to me is that I can hatch as much as I want over the winter without worrying they'll freeze to death when moved outdoors. The problem is that my incubators take up a lot of space, and while I don't mind giving up my desk over the spring, I'd like to have it back for winters. What came to mind was building a very small incubator. Only big enough for a couple quail eggs, and that's it. I heat my bigger incubators with standard size 45w light bulbs, but this seems impractical for a build I'm hoping will be only the size of a 1 gal water cooler at most. Has anyone else done a micro build with any success? What was used as a heating element? I have a few ideas I am tossing around, but other ideas are always useful to me. Thank you for any input you may have.
