Hi, i am new to BYC, and kinda new to chickens. I am so excited to be on here! I am looking into getting some new hens that are very heat tolerant, because i live in Arizona, and will lay a lot of eggs. Does anybody know of any heat tolerant chicken breeds that will lay a lot of eggs for me ?

Welcome to BYC!

Some of the best egg layers are adapted to hot places! For example, there is the Egyptian Fayoumi, White-faced Black Spanish, Leghorn (it large comb helps it stay cool), Minorca, Ancona, and many others. Look for a slim bird without thick, fluffy feathering and that has a large comb to facilitate heat dissipation.

Best of luck!

Alright! Thanks for the info!! Is there any breeds that will lay brown eggs that are good in the heat?

The most heat tolerant brown egg layers are Australorps which are commonly bred in the Australian outback which gets very hot in the summer. I raised Black Australorps where summer temperatures frequently reached 117-118 F (sometimes more), and while my other dual purpose brown egg laying breeds were listless, panting, and holding their wings out at their sides, my Australorps were going about their usual business like troopers.

P.S. Welcome to BYC. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can.)

Thank you very much! Is there a hatchery where I could get Penedesences? They sound very interesting and I love having chocolate eggs!

California hatchery, Meyer Hatchery, Purely Poultry, and Sand Hill Preservation Center I think all sell Penedescencas.

Australorps are awesome, though as of yet I haven't acquired any. I hope to soon.
