It has been 105 or better for a week now. Yesterday morning I got up to make sure the birds were hanging in there. I noticed one was missing and went on a search. I finally found her, she was my sweetest Buff Orpington Hen that followed me everywhere. She was in a clump underneath our 5th wheel. I crawled under there to get her, she lost out her last breath when I picked her up. So sad! They had plenty of shade and water but it was so hot. Our humidity is always really low too. She was one of our first four. I have 5 left that are like pets. The other 15 I won't let myself get sucked into that. Tired of burying hens. 3 to predators 1 unexplained and the heat got Henny Penny. Going to miss that stupid Chicken.

Sorry for your loss. It is hard to lose pets.

I has been hot here too. And to make things worse we had a Golden Eagle flying around today so no free range time for my girls. Of course they were mad and hotter than normal, so I hooked up the mister on the hose and gave them watermelon. I think they have mostly forgiven me for no free range time.

I have 2 Buff Orpingtons also. I'm in North Florida and I am so nervous about the heat and high humidity. I wanted the breed because my children are super involved and they are known to be so docile, but they are so fluffy and I'm worried about them over heating.
I am so sorry for your loss of Penny!!!

It's only reaching mid 80s here, which for us is really hot. My birds are definitely feeling it. Going to pick raspberries tomorrow and freeze some as a treat for the birds.

I'm so sorry about Henny Penny. Unfortunately, it's one of the unavoidable things when it gets as hot as you're experiencing. :hugs

Our humidity is always really low too.
Misters work good in arid climates.

Electrolytes saves chicken lives.
....and big chunks of ice that last all day.
