Heated Water Bowls Not Operating Properly

What kind do you have? Mine have worked for 3 seasons down to -21F. They are mostly out of the wind, however. The first 2 seasons I also used outdoor extension cords with protected connections. These are the ones I have (in assorted sizes):

I always file the receipts from heated bowls and buckets because 95% of the time they give up the ghost just before they're a year old, at which time you can still exchange them. They really do suck, on the whole. I'm hoping to get everyone to use the dang horizontal nipples eventually so I can just use tank heaters instead.

That could definitely be the problem...many heated waters state not to use with ext cords.
Length and gauge of cords would need to be calculated in conjunction of devices needs.
Barn situation at home resolved by upgrading extension cord. Situation at work requires extension cords for short term. They will be upgraded as well or replaced with a lower gauge wiring to prevent voltage drop. We are not using the indoor Christmas tree cords, rather some are used to carry 1 hp paddle wheels 100' from nearest outlet.
