Heated Waterers

A lightbulb under a CLAY plant pot works just as well
Flip the pot upside down on the light and turn it sit the waterer on top of it and there you go one waterer heated up with no worry of short or fire just be sure to bury the wire so your girls don't peck at it.

those heated dog bowls seem a lot more cost effective then buying the fancy heaters. i use a rubber bucket. i never really had it through the winter but im hoping if it does freeze i can just tip out the ice.

I also use these, only danger is big rooster wattles dragging in the water and getting frostbit if the coop itself is pretty cold.

Good Luck!

I think I may get the heated dog bowl or the clay pot deal as that is a great idea too as a back up....if I slip on the ice, I'll be up the creek! I am a firm believer in being prepared, even over prepared.

I like that idea!

I don't know what to do with my waterer. Its hanging in a tractor 5 gal plastic w/ the red base...I'd like to have a battery out there rather than run an extension cord out. I'm still moving it right up until it snows.

Has anyone ever thought of a cover...black on the outside with the reflective material they give athletes to keep warm on the inside? It probably only works during the day...or would it even hold the heat overnight?
