I very new to this chicken thing, and I just noticed that some of my chicks have red poop, is this normal. I have been letting them run the yard and I have saw them eat some bug and worms. it is a dark burgundy red. Is this normal or what do I need to check?

could be cecal poo which is completely normal, but if it is bloody, it could mean coccidiosis, a bacterial infection of the intestines. How old are your chicks? Do you use medicated chick feed? Do any of the chicks seem weak or less active than usual? Do a "poo patrol" and see if you can determine whether or not there is actually blood in the poo. It could be cecal poo or even coloring from the bugs & yard goodies they've been finding. Good luck with your babies! For future reference, if you have a sick chicken or an emergency/disease post, you can go to "Index" in the headers near the top of the page, click on index, then click on the Emergencies/diseases (or whatever topic you need to post to) and click the "new post" yellow tab.

thanks and sorry I love this site just didn't see the emergency topic..
SORRY
my chicks look fine no one seems slow. They are 4-8 weeks I think.

every one runs when I try to catch they to put them in their coop at night. no one is really any slower then anyone else.

I don't think their food is medicated?

How can I tell if it is blood?
