Heating for mixed ages of chicks

Any tips for getting the heat lamp adjusted for chicks of different ages from 1 to 3 weeks old?

I have that exact same situation! I put them all together in a big brooder, and put a heat lamp on one side, and a regular household bulb in the middle, and nothing on the other end... so they all kind of find their comfort zone.

I run a big brooder with 2 lamps... One stays lower and warmer on one end, in the middle is a few links higher, and nothing on the end.

I always put it where the youngest chick can get warm-enough. The others can move further away from the lamp to find their correct zone.

However, I find that younger chicks brooded with older ones will often accept the same temperature as the older chicks. The bigger chicks offer lots of snuggling warmth I guess.
