heating mat

Hi there. I was wondering is anyone has ever used the heating rubber mat seen on shopthecoop.com It is a 9 x 12 inch mat that just warms up slightly and it can be used under straw. My question is if they use it under straw, what about wood shavings? Help

can't think of why anyone would use it = the shavings or hay would keep the heat down by the mat - insulating it, in fact. To add heat to the coop, I think it would be much more efficient to use a heat lamp.
