I see many on-line poultry shows here, and dark egg contests,,,but has there been any egg weight contests before? I have a wheaton marans egg that is right at 100 grams,,twice the weight of my fbc marans eggs,,I got the egg yesterday and all are pullets in the pen,,I'm tempted to throw it into the bator and see what happens, but it is HUGE,,,,color is not that super dark, but it's size is a conversation starter.

Do you think it may have more than one yolk?

I do not think so,,I have been getting one oblong egg daily for months now and every time we use one,it is a double yoker,,but this egg is not out of proportion in any way,,,but it is bigger than a JUMBO,,,I put it in the bator a few hours ago,but will take back out and get a picture to post here.

Several times each week we collect 1 egg that is over 3 ounces. Last was 3.25 oz (will weigh them all for a while) and these are double yokes, but not small yokes. They were full sized yokes. These eggs come from production RIR's, and they taste wonderful. The sizes of many of our dozen(s) are 3 or 4 ounces larger than the large egg designation of 24 oz. Our girls are laying larger and larger eggs as the season moves along.

I heard the supergalactic size eggs tend to not do well for hatching, but I've not tried it me-self! It's a doozy though.

I just tried to,but had to use a standard flashlight instead of my LED,,,,Looks like just a single yoker,,but the only way I will trust any call on this for sure is with my LED,,and I need to get a battery for it tomorrow,it's the only lite that will candle 7,8,or 9 color marans eggs.
