Height of perch

How high should I place the perch> It doesn't seem like my chickens can get up there or they just like me placing the on the perch!!!

I made mine at 4-5 inches off the ground. They did not get up on it until they were about 2-3 weeks old.

Mine are about 2-3 feet high. Sometimes it takes awhile for young birds to learn where to go to perch. Anywhere from half a foot to 4 feet would be a good distance though.

I have two rails one is 6" and the other is 15" and offset like a step on stairs. 15" being in the back.
