My name is Kelsey.
By day I am a Behavioral Intervention Specialist, and also working on my master's in teaching. I just became a new mom, so I'm hoping to extend my maternity leave into a SAHM position until I finish school and can start my new second career. By night I run my own creative boutique, and I also have an Aviary. I currently breed canaries, lady gouldian finches, and one single pair of zebra finches as well as take in rescue birds. I love parrots and other hard bills, but I'm much more into soft bills. I'm currently researching how to successfully building an outside aviary that would serve dual purposes: 1. House one or two rescued crows/ ravens that can't be released and 2. house some kind of ground grouse. I'm looking at quails and pheasants right now, but am continually changing my mind. Other than the normal challenges an outdoor aviary, there are considerable behavioral challenges in housing, handling, and occupying such different birds in the same environment.
I am also interested in obtaining some kind of backyard egg source, but again haven't decided on which birds for that project either.
I'm looking forward to building great professional and networking relationships here as well as finding mentors and sources of information to guide me in my continually growing projects and ideas.
Thank you for your time =)
Ha det!
