I just love BYC. I searched and read this site for a few weeks before purchasing my incubators and putting my eggs in a little over a week ago. I have found many great tips and appreciate all of the honest experiences!
I have 7 shipped Midget White turkeys in, 8 ringneck pheasant, and some of our Black Star's eggs in one bator. Then 17 shipped Dorking eggs in bator #2 with some of our eggs. I have 2 LG 9300's...one with a fan kit ans one still air. As expected from reading about the experiences with them here...I went through quite the journey getting the temps right. I spent at east a week on each one before putting in any eggs. The thermometers I went with were the cheapies from walmart for the fishtanks and the digital hygrometer/thermometer with the probe. I even bought an ear thermometer to spot check egg-shell temp (but haven' t).used it yet.
I did break down and candle the pheasants at 5 days and it loos like all but 2 were developing. (left the others in) Most of our eggs are developing. It was early, but I decided to candle the turkey's at 7 days (the eggs are staggered so they can all go into lockdown together...didnt see much, but one egg had a moving air sac still (from shipping)
. I will candle them again about day 10 or 11.
I learned a lot here. Let my shipped eggs settle for a little over 24 hrs and did not turn them for 3 days. (The Dorks just went in yesterday)
I am sure I will have questions and will love to share the journey. I will appreciate all the advice I can get..
