Hi everyone,I am new here ,and just started raiseing Chickens about 6 months ago ,Now I am chicken crazy too.I got me and incubator about 2 months ago and hatched out some Guineas ,I had really good luck with those ,why Guineas you ask ,Because my nieghbor has Guineas and he had lots of egg and gave me 40 of them , All hatched but about six of them ,I sold all but three babies for 3.00 a piece made myself some money .It was so much fun ,now im hooked ,I went out and got me 2 more incubators and I have ordered some eggs of eBay,I got RIR and Barred rock eggs .Now I got to build 2 new pens. All my other hens are in the same pen,I ordered them this summer from McMurry's .They are all mixed breeds .So here I am and so happy to fine you guys.I do have one question .My hens have been laying now for a few months, and I have one that started setting 2 days ago ,hey It's winter time here , do chickens set in the winter?

Hi!

Hi and welcome to BYC.

My hens do not usually go broody in the winter time. Hopefully someone with more experience will come and give you some advice.

Hello,
Best place to get your q's answered is puttin them in the right spot. This q may get more attention in the CHICKEN BEHAVIOR section....with an appropriate title: Chickens lay eggs in winter?
kind of thing.

And then plenty of people will come and say something like: yes, they will decrease in the number and rate in which they lay but you can help them too by leaving a light on in the coop if you so wish.

and believe me...plenty of us have differing opinions and you can pick which one suits you best.

and um....

and if you see 2 guys named Purple Chicken and Bluey....run run and hide!!!
