I am a city girl whose bucket list included owning chickens and I finally did it about 4.5 year ago. I've been feeling the love ever since.

I have 8 banty hens and 1 roo who hid his gender until the other rooster chicks left. They include a silkie, a Barred Rock, a Polish, 2 Easter Eggers, and an unknown, plus their mixed offspring.

Then I have frizzle and smooth seramas in pairs, 8 total with 2 new very young pullets.

I have been researching chicken care through BackYardChickens.com since I got my chicks, but tonight a reader finally needs my help. So I signed on...

Are there other hobbies besides chickens???!! (Well, I do like hiking but it's sometimes tough to tear myself away from my flock.

I am a school teacher, with no family besides my flock....and they are the BEST thing I ever did for myself. I have not met a chicken person yet that didn't feel the same way.
