I’m a chicken keeper in CA. I have a funky little yard and I’m very happy to now have chickens.
last April after the sudden death of my dad, my 1st grader came home and asked if she could have the class chicks that were being hatched in an incubator. So, at 3 days old I received 6 chicks. What a blessing a a great distraction from life!
A year later, I have rehomed 3 Roos (I tried to keep one, but my husband was too nervous about neighbors complaining as we live very close to people) and have 3 hens. All my neighbors startedvasking to buy eggs, so I added 4 more chicks to my flock to keep up the demand.
this is MCA, ala the Beastie Boys (my daughter calls her Madame Chicken Astronaut) and is a Cream Legbar. She is my fave and knows it. But, she can be held by anybody and lives for blueberries!
Then the Tweedle Dee Sisters...Snowflake the leghorn mix, who does not like humans and Davey Havoc who I think is a splash ameracauna mix (she lays a light blue egg) and likes some cuddles
lastly, the new chicks are 6 weeks old.
