Hi everyone. I'm new to chickens and to the forums. I just adopted three hens from some neighbors that were moving and couldn't take them with. I'm thoroughly enjoying my chickens so far.

I started with 3 many, many years ago. I now have close to 200 birds. Good luck with that!

yep, that's the way it begins! Welcome! Be sure to keep your girls warm on cold nights (around 40 lowest) and dry--someplace to roost inside a building--even if it's just a storeroom. That's where my girls are spending a rainy day. I had old left over rabbit cages/trays, so each hen has her own 'house' with separate food/water containers. A small ceramic heater keeps them warmish. I made a protected pen off the storeroom that has a shade cloth top that keeps hawks away and they eat breakfast usually in there when nicer weather. Then they get to play the rest of the day in the backyard. I keep a saucer (large plant saucer) filled with water daily. They snooze on the porch and catch bugs when they feel like it. You will enjoy watching their interactions. A very calming pet to have.
