New here on BYC we just bought a house in a small town on 3/4 of an acre and I'm sooo excited to move in. We are trying to become a little more self sufficient and natural :) and I'm going to miss my garden this year due to the time we are moving so I thought it best to start with the chickens :) I'm looking for some good ideas for coups and the best breeds for children that lay often... Any help would be great!!

Hello! Hope you find all the info you need here!

I am in the same boat as you after a recent move, so I'm also planning chicken coops instead of gardens! Luckily chickens is something you can do anytime. Here are some sections you can look at to get you started on your new venture:

General - getting started:

Coops and housing:

Freq asked questions:

Also if you are leaning towards a more self-sufficient lifestyle I think you will enjoy our sister site: www.SufficientSelf.com

Enjoy!
