Hello and Howdy

Thank you for making me feel so welcome!

Okay, a little about myself. I live in mid western Ontario, Canada. I just bought an old schoolhouse and the renovations are almost done. I had some chickens when I was little, and loved then, except the rooster, who pecked the heck out of my ankle.

I was wondering about different breeds and if they do well together. I am thinking about getting some Swedish Flowers, Wyandottes, and Jersey Giants. I don't know if they will get along in the coop and if I need a roo for the different breeds.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I have Wyandottes and Plymouth Barred Rocks together with no problems, i dont have any Swedish Flowers nor heard of them until now guess you learn something new everyday, now that my niece seen the name of that chicken breed she wants some so ill have to see if i can get some if they do well in hot climates.

Thank you so much for all the advice. Now I know, I do not need a rooster. A friend told me that hens will lay more if there is a rooster in the picture.
I am thinking of only getting 10-12 for a start. We will see how that goes.
I am a type A, so I do a lot of research ahead of time. I am also researching the best kind of coop for the climate here.

TA friend told me that hens will lay more if there is a rooster in the picture.
Actually, the opposite is frequently true as the hens are often in better physical condition without a rooster in the picture.
