Hi all! I'm a new member. I have a very concerning question as well. I have two adult hens about 2 years old (ameracauna and barred rock). My husband works at a summer camp and I have fallen in love with one of the chicks from the barn that has a "scissored beak" (see picture below) and is about 10 weeks old at this point. I want to raise this bird as my own, but I am concerned about incorporating it with my current flock of only two hens. My plan is to keep the chick separate in another cage for a few weeks and possibly let all 3 free range together to get used to each other... any other advice or words of wisdom or thoughts are VERY appreciated!

I think that keeping the chicken is quite a sweet thing to do especially since it has a lopsided beak. I would suggest getting two more chickens of the same age to make it easier on integrating them. It is possible to integrate without adding more chickens than the one you want, but it makes things easier for both you and your baby :)

Good luck and I hope you do well!

She does have a pretty bad crossbeak and they tend to worsen as they mature. You may want to explore the crossbeak links given to you, to determine if the quality of her life will be undermined.
