Hello everybody, thank you all for the great info already posted. It has proven very valuable during my first chick brooding and the construction of their coop (coop build will be posted soon).

I live in south Texas and have been reading and researching chickens, along with many other homesteading projects, for over a few years. Now i am implementing much of my studys.

So far i have 11 6week old chicks. 3 white somethings, 6 reds of some type, and two feathered leg bantems. They were from Tractor supply and didnt have breeds posted or known. So now i have 15 more arriving from Meyer Hatchery in a week. Supper excited!!!

Thanks and God Bless,
Saltcreek - Brad.

WELCOME!

Won't it be fun to see what your mystery flock turns out to be! :)

Hi :welcome Brad

Glad you could join the flock! How exciting for you getting more chicks :celebrate I love hatching and raising chicks it's such great fun and very rewarding and something I enjoy very much. There is the what breed gender section you could post pics in for help on identifying your mystery chicks. Here is the link https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

Do you know what breeds you are getting from Meyer? Or will they be the unknown too?
Be sure to ask any questions you may have and enjoy BYC. Good luck with new chicks in the future :frow

thank you, I am curious to find out the breeds from TSC, but I did get to choose the new chicks. I ordered 4 of each Golden Buff, Black Australorp, and Barred Rock. With three Buff Orpington.

Welcome to BYC, Brad. Glad you decided join our flock. You've ordered some great breeds from Meyer. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and my granddaughter made lap pets of them, and our Buff Orpingtons as well), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Golden Buff is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links and they are laying machines. You should get loads of eggs from those four girls. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks.
